Content That Works

Time to Make Some Marketing Moves – Even in Flip-Flop Season

Whether your business is experiencing a summer slowdown or heading into the tourist crush, summer is full of marketing opportunities. From sunny community events and flowerbox-fronted shops to sailboats along a sparkling coastline and a wildlife shot in the highlands, there are fresh visuals that only come once a year when Maine looks this good. Whether you’ve got a little more breathing room at the moment, or you’re riding a wave of busy, now’s the time to create content that connects. One thing’s for sure, summer is NOT the time to take a vacation from your marketing, but you can have fun with it while you enjoy summer in Maine – try these summer marketing tips:

When you capture the energy of summer, you’re not just sharing pretty photos – you’re drawing people into your world and reminding them why they love your business. Summertime in Maine is the perfect time to create content that tells your story and builds excitement for what’s ahead, so make some time.

This gorgeous view of Pine Point in Scarborough will make a good image for just about anything I need a “Maine” summer image for.

Here are a few warm-weather ways to keep your marketing moving:

Take Fresh Photos

Summer’s natural beauty is a goldmine for visuals that you need for social posts, newsletters, or future marketing campaigns. Keep your camera or cell phone handy and snap, snap, snap! Use lovely Maine images to create social media posts, brighten up newsletters, or build a library of images for future promotions, advertising, blog posts, and social media.

And don’t forget to get your business outside! Summer marketing tips include capturing your products, services, team, or location in all their summer glory. These images are perfect for social media, newsletters, and future campaigns as well. People like to see the folks behind a business having fun together (do a social post about your company summer bean bag tournament), have a staff meeting outside (add it to your About page on your website), take a picture of your products on the beach (seeing them in a different environment might make people pay more attention).

My creative Old Orchard Beach neighbor made this for our 4th celebrations. Sometimes you can just share fun things in the summer – don’t forget about that!

Write a Few Blog Posts

While your office and inbox are a little quieter, take advantage of the peace and write a few blog articles. Focus on blogs that educate, inspire, or inform your audience. A few well-crafted posts now can keep your website fresh for months.

Plan Ahead

Think about fall promotions, back-to-school specials, or even getting a jump start on holiday campaigns. Getting a head start now means less stress (and better results) later. Things get hectic very quickly as soon as that calendar turns to September!

Broken links and missing pages on websites don’t look good!

Refresh Your Website & Marketing Materials

Give your website and other marketing materials a good read through and make sure everything is current and accurate. Refresh your About and Products/Services pages (use some of those new images!), and check all your forms and links for correctness.

Your business evolves, and your website and marketing materials need to grow right along with you.

Check In with Your Customers

A lot of our clients ask about pausing newsletters over the summer because they “don’t want to bother people during the summer.” There’s actually never a good time to ignore your audience. When you hit pause on something like a newsletter (or any connection to your audience, really), you give them the perfect opportunity to go to one of your competitors (who probably are NOT pausing). So, top of the summer marketing tips list is: don’t stop communicating with your customers!

Instead, do a casual check in with your customer list. Ask them what they need, what challenges they’re facing, or how you can support them this season. A thoughtful email or social media poll can show that you’re paying attention and ready to help.

We’ve Still Got 1/2 the Year Left!

So, whether you’re taking advantage of a little extra downtime or squeezing in moments between busy days, summer is full of chances to lay the groundwork for a strong finish to the year. The effort you put in now doesn’t just help you stay visible – it helps you stay ahead. While others are coasting – you can be cruising into the last half of the year with a strong plan and great content!
